Absence From School

If a child is absent from school for any reason, parents are required to supply the class teacher with a note to be returned on the first day back at school after the absence. This is a legal requirement.  Where a child is likely to be absent for an extended period, prior notification would be appreciated.

 Administration of Prescribed Medication

The school gives special medications to students at 11.00 am each day. Where possible, we encourage parents not to send medicines with their children if it can be avoided. If your child needs to take an antibiotic medicine, then the doctor can prescribe the medication to be taken before and after school.

Special procedures and precautions are taken with all S8 drugs. Indemnity forms need to be completed by parents prior to any school personnel giving medications. Parents must bring necessary medication to the school office before it can be administered by staff.

Procedures are in place for asthmatic children. Children using Ventolin puffers can keep the spray with them so that they have immediate access to their medication.

If your child has a special medication need, please speak to the Principal who will make suitable arrangements. When an emergency arises, if we are in doubt about any injury or sickness, we ring both the parent and ambulance for support.

Bell Times and Supervision of Pupils

We ask that children do not arrive at school prior to 8.45am as there is no supervision of students by staff. In the case of students who arrive by bus prior to 8.45am, we ask that they sit on the silver seats near the Staff Room until the bell rings and a teacher commences direct playground supervision.

Playground supervision is also provided at recess and lunch time. Children leaving school at 3.15 pm are supervised to buses.

 Anaphylaxis

Anaphylaxis is a SUDDEN & SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTION. It occurs when a person is exposed to an allergen. Reactions usually begin within minutes of exposure and can progress rapidly over a period of up to two hours and more.

At our school we currently have some children who can have an anaphylactic reaction as a result of being exposed to PEANUTS or MILK. Anaphylaxis is potentially life threatening and always requires an emergency response. Fortunately, anaphylactic reactions are uncommon and mostly preventable.

All children who are anaphylactic have a personal Health Care Plan. Copies are located in the Staffroom, classrooms and the canteen.

To help keep these children safe at our school, we ask that you do not send peanuts and nut products (Nutella, Muesli bars etc) to school with your children. We also recommend that all children be encouraged to wash their hands before and after eating.

If you have any queries about Anaphylaxis and what you can do to help, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN A CURE AND YOUR SUPPORT WOULD BE APPRECIATED!

 Bus Travel

Many children travel to and from school on buses.

Free bus travel is provided for all children except for those children in Years 3-6 who travel on the Town Bus. Applications for free bus travel should be made when your child is enrolled at the school. These forms are available from the School Office.

Changes to Student Information

For the safety and welfare of the children, it is important for the school to have the correct most current information.

Please notify the school by phone or in writing immediately upon a change of address, a change of telephone number; a change in medical status, gaining or losing custody of children, or if there has been a change in the emergency contact person. Copies of court orders will be placed in a confidential file in the School Office.

 Enrolment Procedures

Children who turn five on or before 31 July are eligible to start Kindergarten.

A BIRTH CERTIFICATE and an IMMUNISATION CERTIFICATE is required. Parents will need to fill in an enrolment form as well as the pupil information card. Forms are available from the School Office.

Parents wishing to enrol their children should telephone the School for an interview with the Principal.

Lost Property

Lost property is stored in bins outside some classrooms. The property is sorted regularly with unlabelled clothing being sent to the Uniform Shop or Red Cross. All efforts are made to return LABELLED items to their owners.

Newsletter

Parents are encouraged to read the weekly newsletter to keep informed of coming school activities and events.

The School Newsletter is distributed to the eldest child in each family on a Monday. Parents who do not receive a copy of the newsletter may obtain one from the office or have it emailed to them.
