Supporting Students

Our students prosper in a safe and nurturing environment. We have an effective welfare and discipline program that results in a happy family atmosphere within a large school setting.

Children with Special Needs

Scone Primary School has a Special Education Classroom which emphasises inclusivity, through integration in everyday aspects of school life. This includes assemblies, sports and classroom integration.

We offer a caring environment which caters for each individual student.

An Individual Educational Program (IEP) is established for each child.

These programs emphasise building independence, catering to all needs and special requirements of the child.

Students participate in cooking sessions, gross motor and Riding for the Disabled (RDA).

Sun Protection

Children are required to wear a suitable hat when outside in the playground. Sunscreen is available to all children. Children not wearing a hat will be asked to play in a shaded area.

Assemblies

Each department (i.e. K-2 and 3-6) holds a formal weekly assembly where messages of general interest are given, class items are performed and the children’s efforts are rewarded with Merit Awards and Certificates. These assembly times are given on the weekly Newsletter. Parents are welcome to attend the assemblies which are usually held on Fridays.

Daily assemblies for K-2 and 3-6 students are usually held at midday in the Covered Outdoor Learning Areas.

Awards

Merit Awards are issued by the teaching staff. When the children receive 5 Merit Awards they are awarded their First Level of Achievement Certificate.

A Second Level of Achievement Certificate is awarded for 10 Merit Awards.

A Third Level of Achievement Certificate is awarded for 15 Merit Awards.

An Honour Student Badge is awarded for 20 Merit Awards.

The children are encouraged to safely store these special awards so that the next “level of achievement” can be gained.

Dance

Each year a number of dance groups are formed.

In 2007 the Boys dance group performed at the Hunter Schools Dance Festival at Newcastle.
